Volunteering

The LGBTQ Center is staffed Monday through Friday by student volunteers. Volunteers work in teams of two to maintain the Center and answer inquiries. Volunteers also work on special projects such as bathroom mapping, developing materials, and producing media. Check back here at the beginning of September 2019 to fill out the Interest Form and to sign-up! Contact the Operations Intern, Indiyah (lgbtqoperations@gmail.com) if you have any questions.

Internships

Every year, student interns work with the Program Coordinator for LGBTQ Student Services and help run some of the major functions of the LGBTQ Center. The internship positions include:

  • Education Intern
  • Operations Intern
  • Outreach Intern
  • Programs Intern

The APPLICATION for 2019-2020 interns has closed.  Applications for 2020-2021 will be available in March.

Speakers Bureau

The LGBTQ Center’s Speakers Bureau consists of LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff who volunteer their time to educate the University community about LGBTQ+ issues. The Speakers Bureau presents in an open Q&A panel format that allows for a great deal of interaction between the audience and the members of the panel.

We are happy to present in classrooms, residence halls, Greek organizations, diversity workshops or retreats – just about anywhere! Interested in having the LGBTQ Center Speakers Bureau present to your organization, or in becoming a panelist? Contact the Education Intern, Blake (lgbtqSpeakersBureau@virginia.edu).

Community Groups

We are always interested in reaching out to different community organizations that help develop our diverse LGBTQ+ community. If you are a part of a community organization interested in getting in contact with the LGBTQ Center, please contact the Outreach Intern, Zoe (zcp7yd@virginia.edu).
