Love is... 2022

Every year in preparation for Valentine's Day, the LGBTQ Center designs a t-shirt to capture the many ways the UVA community experiences love. Love is complex and multifaceted. This year, the Center designed a shirt that encourages the UVA community to define what love means to them in a multitude of ways by completing the phrase "Love is _______." On February 14th, everyone is invited to wear their shirt and show support! Each year, this event is made possible due to generous support from the Serpentine Society, UVA's LGBTQ Alumni Organization.

"Love is" History

The “Love is Love” t-shirt campaign began in 2009 as a way to visibly support LGBTQ students on the holiday. In 2019, we made a few changes to the LGBTQ Center’s Valentine’s Day celebration. We wanted to preserve and expand the spirit of this message to explicitly support all kinds of love. The Valentine’s Day “Love is” campaign celebrates the diverse forms in which love manifests, be it queer, platonic, romantic, familial, communal, self-extended, and so on.
